500 Years of the Crown 2026 UK £5 Gold Proof Coin
500 Years of the Crown 2026 UK £5 Gold Proof Coin
  • Description
  • Specifications
The 500 Years of the Crown 2026 UK £5 Gold Proof Coin is an exclusive numismatic masterpiece from The Royal Mint, issued with a strict Limited Edition Presentation of just 150 pieces and a maximum mintage of 160. This exceptional coin celebrates half a millennium of the British crown piece, historically prized both as a circulating currency and a grand commemorative token since its inception in 1526 under the reign of King Henry VIII. It serves as an extraordinary heirloom for serious collectors, seamlessly connecting centuries of royal tradition, the evolution of British currency, and the contemporary Carolean era.

Crafted by renowned sculptor Timothy Noad, the reverse design beautifully fuses early Tudor numismatic history with the modern British monarchy. Strikingly modeled after the original 1526 crown, it features the contemporary cyphers of both His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty Queen Camilla. The coin is struck in 39.94g of 22-carat yellow gold (916.67 fine gold) to reflect the rich appearance of original sixteenth-century hammered coinage. To mirror the expanding metal aesthetics of early minting techniques, it was struck without a collar, giving it the characteristic elongated beading around the edge.

The obverse, designed by Martin Jennings, features the official portrait of King Charles III framed by a unique decorative border of five roses. Each rose symbolizes one of the five centuries that have passed since the original crown was minted. The rose has been a recurring symbol of both royalty and England on British coinage for centuries, making it the perfect motif for this landmark anniversary. This 38.61mm diameter coin is finished to the highest Proof quality with a milled edge, offering a magnificent tribute to 500 years of royal heritage.
